After Care. Now What?

The care for your baby after the Bris is simpler than you think.

Before I leave, I will make sure that you are clear on instructions and answer any questions that you might have. That day, we can even do his first diaper change together, while I explain to you how to care for the circumcision.

All There Is To It

At every diaper change you will need to apply antibiotic ointment to a fresh sterile gauze pad (replacing the previous pad). Simply place it on, and close the diaper. Continue this until the entire antibiotic tube is used up, about two to three days.

If the area is still red after the antibiotic tube is used up (this is normal and expected), applying a light-coating of Vaseline on the diaper area, where it comes into contact,  is suggested. The ointment may build-up a protective residue that may dry to a crusty appearance, but this will dissipate by itself.

Avoid use of baby wipes at this time, gently cleaning the area with soft water-soaked cotton balls or a washcloth until it is healed, (about a week).

Call me if you have any concerns!
